William Xavier Smith, Jr.
William Xavier Smith, Jr., 84 passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born October 19, 1927 to the late William X. Smith, Sr. and Ellen Leacy Smith. He was a 1944 graduate of Benedictine Military Academy. William was a former member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Richmond Hill, and attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Savannah. He was an avid stamp collector and was a member of the American Philatelic Society. He was a career veteran serving the United States Navy.
He is survived by five sons, William X. Smith, III of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Tim G. Smith Cynthia of Bowie, Maryland, Bart L. Smith Thelma of Crofton, Maryland, Andrew J. Smith Mary of Crestview, Florida, and Allan P. Smith of Odenton, Maryland. He is also survived by two sisters, Marian Proper Leon of Savannah, and Eleanor Pierce of Savannah, sisters-in-law, Catherine Smith of Savannah, Rita Culvern of Louisville, GA and Janet Wilkinson of Milledgeville, GA, and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
